Welcome 2015-16 Grade 8s!!!
Dear Students and Families,
By now you have likely heard which class you are going to be in next year and are looking forward to seeing your friends again as Grade 8 approaches. I am just too excited to wait all the way until Thursday, so let me take this opportunity to welcome you to Grade 8 Humanities and to introduce myself.
One of the wonderful things about teaching at Heritage Heights is that I have already had the opportunity to get to know pretty much all of the students before they enter the doors of my classroom. I’ve taught many of your siblings and I have met your families.
We have many wonderful things in store for the year. In humanities, language arts and social studies are intertwined, and as such, many of the books and stories that we read are going to be related to the interesting and engaging topics that we are studying. For more information on what we are studying this year, please go to www.mrberrigan.com.
In addition, I strongly encourage you to make the most of your experience in Grade 8 by taking the opportunity to participate in some of the many extracurricular programs that we offer. Athletically, Grade 8 students can participate in volleyball, basketball, badminton, flag football and track and field. Artistically we have an incredible musical theatre program that allows student participation both on stage and behind the scenes as well as a very highly regarded band program.
I like to communicate assignments and announcements in a multitude of different ways.
I send regular texts through remind.com – please sign up by texting @grade8hu to (780) 800-7564
I post assignments on Google Classroom… in fact, there is one waiting there for you, the parent, right now! Go to classroom.google.com with your child’s login. The classroom code for our first class is 29kzn1
Finally, please feel free to email me at email@example.com, call at (403) 938-1400, or stop by any time.
On a final note, I just wanted to share with you that I genuinely love being a teacher. I love the opportunity that I have to be involved in the growth and development of the kids in our school, and take pride in being part of a great team in a great school. Should you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me and I will respond as soon as I can.
All of the best in an amazing year!
Mr. Matt Berrigan
